We will talk you through the process

Accessing support because you know your child is struggling is a big step and one we understand. We will help you every step of the way, working in a way which is comfortable for you and your child and which delivers positive results.

Understanding children and helping them open up

Our experienced team uses a variety of techniques depending on the age of the child to help them to communicate their thoughts and feelings.  Through play or art therapy, we can explore different issues that are affecting them and gently guide them to understand the confusing world they inhabit. From tackling anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties or self-esteem our therapists can provide a safe environment for children to open up.

Is therapy right for my child?

Working with children is a specialist skill which requires, a great deal of training, experience and patience. The therapeutic journey often has a different trajectory because there is usually less vocabulary for children to draw on. However, research shows that child and play therapy can be very effective in tackling problems early on in someone’s life, having a long-term impact on their mental health.

Depending on what services we recommend the next step is a formal assessment either with a clinical psychologist or a member of the therapy team.

The path to better mental health and wellness is a life-long process. Our aim is that you will get to a point where you no longer need us. However, our team will always be available to provide ongoing support, advice or additional help should you need it.

Child and adolescent therapy

A long history in behavioural health

We use age-appropriate interventions. The needsof an eig ht-year-old differ from those working with a teen. We involve parents and carers in the process and may ask them to employ strategies to reinforce what is being resolved through therapy. All our work is underpinned by high-quality research and backed by ongoing development and training of the team.
Our bespoke support model allows us to help clients no matter what their current stage of recovery.

Some common play therapy questions

Do you accept medical insurance?

We do not accept medical insurance.  In some instances, clients are able to reclaim the cost of our services from theirinsurance companies but we do not deal with insurance companies directly. If additional information is required by a client in making an insurance claim an administration fee is payable.

Do you do therapy online?

Yes. We have a number of therapists who specialise in working with clients online. Get in touch and we can match you up with the most suitable member of the team.

Are you CQC registered?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) oversees clinical and medical support in the UK.  Portobello Behavioural Health doesn't provide clinical or medical services and so we are not CQC registered. Therapists are registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, The Heath and Care Professions Council or a similar accrediting body. Case management and coaching are unregulated, non-clinical services. As such there is no governing or regulatory body that oversees this work. Any concerns, issues or complaints should be addressed to admin@portobellobh.com.

Can you refer me to a treatment centre/psychiatrist/psychologist?

We work with a variety of providers and professionals in the addiction and mental health field. We often work alongside these professionals to provide wrap-around care. If PBH is not the right service for you, or we feel we are not the right fit for you we will happily make a recommendation to another provider that may be able to help.

Where are you based?

We operate from two offices, one in London and one in Guildford, Surrey. However, we provide support to clients across the world through case management, coaching and therapy. This may include remote or online support or it may mean our coaches travelling to clients in their home country.
