What is anxiety?

Anxiety Is a mental health condition characterised by excessive, persistent, or irrational feelings of fear, apprehension, or dread. Anxiety can manifest in several ways and when it becomes excessive it can impact an individual's emotional well-being, behaviours, and everyday life. Anxiety disorders include generalised anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and specific phobias.

How can Portobello Behavioural Health help?

Therapy can help individuals learn coping strategies and develop skills to manage anxiety symptoms. PBH uses a myriad of therapeutic techniques including CBT which typically involves identifying negative thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to anxiety and developing practical solutions to stop them from dominating thinking. Coaches can encourage clients to play an active role in their own journey and can support them in making the necessary changes, whilst creating a safe and judgement-free space for their clients. Coaches can also connect clients to relevant community resources, whilst advocating for and encouraging them. Coaches at PBH can help clients to invest in positive and healthy lifestyle choices and develop life skills and help them to action this change

Some common questions about anxiety

Do you accept medical insurance?

We do not accept medical insurance.  In some instances, clients are able to reclaim the cost of our services from theirinsurance companies but we do not deal with insurance companies directly. If additional information is required by a client in making an insurance claim an administration fee is payable.

Do you do therapy online?

Yes. We have a number of therapists who specialise in working with clients online. Get in touch and we can match you up with the most suitable member of the team.

Do you do online coaching?

Yes. We are able to support clients online. This works better in some instances than other, usually depending on the presentation and the person involved. Get in touch and speak to a member of the team and options can be discussed.

Do you provide confidential support?

Discretion and confidentiality are our bywords. We protect our clients confidentiality rigorously and have processes in place to ensure that information is safeguarded. We pride ourselves on our discretion. Our flexible approach to support means that we can often work with clients in a way which suits their needs for privacy.

Does PBH follow a particular treatment approach or modality?

The way we support clients is flexible as we recognise that different people are at different stages in their road to wellness. We do not advocate or prescribe a particular modality but do recognise that clients who are engaged in self-destructive behaviours often need to be supported to stop or minimise the behaviour in order for their recovery to progress. However, we also acknowledge that this is not a linear process and as such lapses are frequent and we are adept at dealing with them.

How much does therapy/coaching/case management cost?

The prices for our services vary depending on what is required. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements and we can explain what PBH can provide and how much it will cost.

Where are you based?

We operate from two offices, one in London and one in Guildford, Surrey. However, we provide support to clients across the world through case management, coaching and therapy. This may include remote or online support or it may mean our coaches travelling to clients in their home country.

What do I do in an emergency?

Dealing with mental health problems is turbulent and characterised by repeated crises. PBH is not an emergency service. If you find yourself in a situation where someone needs medical assistance or there is an imminent danger you should call emergency services. If the situation is contained and you require rapid response in the form of case management or coaching please get in touch.
