As a female therapist, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the incredible strength and resilience of women from all walks of life. But I’ve also seen how the weight of societal expectations, caregiving responsibilities, and personal struggles can take a toll on mental health. Women are often expected to juggle so much, careers, families, relationships, all while remaining calm, composed, and selfless. It’s no wonder many feel overwhelmed or stretched too thin.

As women, we need to remind ourselves, and each other, that prioritizing mental health is not selfish; it’s essential. Whether it’s seeking therapy, leaning on friends or family, or simply taking time for self-care, these acts are investments in our well-being and our future.

International Women’s Day is one way to recognise this. It provides an opportunity to address these challenges openly, breaking the stigma around mental health discussions. Being vulnerable and seeking support fosters resilience and normalises struggles, empowering women to prioritise their mental health and thrive.

Let’s celebrate women by advocating for open conversations and mental health care access.
