We make it easy to get started

Whether you’re looking for individual, adult, adolescent, couples, family, or group counselling, our team of psychotherapists—with locations in London and Surrey—provide empathy, hope, and expert guidance on your journey.

Supporting friends & family

If you’re trying to support a loved one, friend, or colleague through challenges like these, you may not even know where to start.

It’s very common to find that multiple members of the same family could all benefit from counselling. Our team is usually able to coordinate family care for multiple family members, providing a cohesive treatment plan not only for the individuals involved, but also for the family unit as a whole.

Some common therapy questions

Do you accept medical insurance?

We do not accept medical insurance.  In some instances, clients are able to reclaim the cost of our services from their insurance companies but we do not deal with insurance companies directly. If additional information is required by a client in making an insurance claim an administration fee is payable.

Are you CQC registered?

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) oversees clinical and medical support in the UK.  Portobello Behavioural Health doesn't provide clinical or medical services and so we are not CQC registered. Therapists are registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, The Heath and Care Professions Council or a similar accrediting body. Case management and coaching are unregulated, non-clinical services. As such there is no governing or regulatory body that oversees this work. Any concerns, issues or complaints should be addressed to admin@portobellobh.com.

Do you do therapy online?

Yes. We have a number of therapists who specialise in working with clients online. Get in touch and we can match you up with the most suitable member of the team.

Does PBH follow a particular treatment approach or modality?

The way we support clients is flexible as we recognise that different people are at different stages in their road to wellness. We do not advocate or prescribe a particular modality but do recognise that clients who are engaged in self-destructive behaviours often need to be supported to stop or minimise the behaviour in order for their recovery to progress. However, we also acknowledge that this is not a linear process and as such lapses are frequent and we are adept at dealing with them.

How much does therapy/coaching/case management cost?

The prices for our services vary depending on what is required. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements and we can explain what PBH can provide and how much it will cost.

Where are you based?

We operate from two offices, one in London and one in Guildford, Surrey. However, we provide support to clients across the world through case management, coaching and therapy. This may include remote or online support or it may mean our coaches travelling to clients in their home country.

How do I pay?

You can either pay for your session at the end of each in-person appointment using a card.

Alternatively, we ask you to sign up to direct debit when registering with us. Each month, you will continue to receive an invoice, which will include a full breakdown of sessions, dates, and charges. A few days after the invoice is issued, the payment will then be collected automatically via Direct Debit. This means you’ll always have the opportunity to review your invoice before any funds are taken.

In some, pre-agreed cases, we can issue an invoice which can be paid via bank transfer or online using a card.

If someone else is responsible for the payment, we can send the invoice to them directly. Please note that all our services are self-pay, and we do not currently accept or liaise with insurance companies.

What is your cancellation policy?

We kindly request that you provide at least 48 hours' notice for therapy appointments, or 24 hours' notice for coaching sessions via email if you need to cancel an appointment to avoid being charged the full session fee. For groups or workshops please refer to the booking confirmation.

For further information please see our updated terms.

Do I have to commit to seeing my therapist weekly?

For the consistency needed for personal growth, we generally recommend weekly sessions. However, we understand that flexibility may be required and this can be discussed with your therapist. Weekly contact is particularly beneficial at the beginning to establish a strong therapeutic connection, but we can certainly explore flexible arrangements if appropriate.

How long is a therapy session?

Standard individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Longer sessions may be available depending on your needs and what is most suitable for you.

What do I do in an emergency/ crisis?

Dealing with mental health problems is turbulent and characterised by repeated crises.  PBH is not an emergency service. If you find yourself in a situation where yourself or someone needs medical assistance or there is an imminent danger you should call emergency services. If the situation is contained and you require rapid response in the form of case management or coaching please get in touch.
