Ana Nunes is an addiction psychotherapist and counsellor, and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and Addiction Professionals (formerly the Federation of Drug and Alcohol Practitioners).
She offers sessions in English and Portuguese.
She adopts an integrative and humanistic approach, working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, behavioural addictions, and associated emotional difficulties such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. Her work focuses not only on the addiction itself, but also on the underlying psychological processes and relational patterns that sustain it.
Ana has experience in both individual and group therapy, as well as in supporting families affected by addiction. She has worked in a range of clinical and community settings in Portugal and the United Kingdom, including treatment centres, intensive addiction units, and community and non-profit organisations.
Her approach emphasises motivational work, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and the development of sustainable recovery. She is particularly skilled in working with ambivalence towards change and resistance in therapy.
Before transitioning into psychotherapy, Ana held senior leadership roles in Human Resources for over 20 years, bringing a strong understanding of organisational dynamics, interpersonal functioning, and behavioural change into her clinical work.
